Last Thursday I was invited to an event hosted by P&O and Cunard – it was all very top secret from the beginning.
The event was to be held at the stately home of Phileas Fogg where he shared his epic voyage with some VIP guests.
We were coached from our hotel to a local steam railway station where we were given some fizz and a commemorative newspaper which gave hints of what was in store for the evening.
We were then back on the coach and taken to Phileas Fogg and his wife Aoda’s stately home, which turned out to be in the grounds of West Midlands Safari Park. We were met by an amazing brass band and was told some great stories of Phileas Fogg’s wonderful and adventurous journey around the world, with the chance to explore his Stately home!.
We had the opportunity to look at all the maps, photographs of his travels and explored rooms which reminded him of his travels. We had the chance to sample some of the Orient in one room, relax in a London style lounge bar in another. We also visited Egypt, San Francisco, Hong Kong before joining the queue to sample the delights of the Gin O’clock in Bombay and then heading for a cocktail in New York.
At 7.30 the brass band escorted us to dinner which was in a very impressive marquee in the grounds of the Safari park where we enjoyed good food and wine and evening entertainment.
It really was a great night and am very lucky to work in an industry that can put these events on.
