So last Saturday I completed a 21 mile 200 obstacle course called the Rat Race… I have to say it was the hardest thing I have ever done, physically and mentally.
This is what we looked like at the start and the end!!
Our race started at 10.30am and I think we finished around 6.30pm – I’ve got to admit I was too tired to look at the time when I finished – all I wanted to do was go home and forget about the day.
So now I have had time to recover and my bruises are now healing I do feel a huge sense of achievement, some of the obstacles were very challenging, either using all my upper body strength or overcoming my fear of heights. We had to jump from a height into a pool of muddy water, that I didn’t mind – it was the cargo nets that I found hard – but they didn’t beat me. What did beat me were the monkey bars!
At mile 13 you are given the chance to finish the course, but we never would have done that, we went to complete the whole course and that’s what we did!! We had trained so hard over the past few months and nothing was going to stop us finishing. Even at mile 6 my friend suffered severe cramp – but she continued on full of determination. It has taken me a week to fully recover more mentally than anything else but now when I look back to what we did that day I do feel very proud of myself.
Just a couple of photos that were taken at the very last obstacle this really did take the last of my strength!!
