It seems that the year I turned 40 was when I would try my hand at a few physical events. I have always loved to stay fit and healthy, well as much as my social life lets me.. Last year I took part in my first ever wolf run (please see previous blog), I absolutely loved it!! Last weekend was a girly weekend away, we stayed in a Tepee and had a great time, we laughed from start to finish…It was great just chilling out, not getting dressed up, drinking and eating round the campfire. On the Saturday we booked in to do Go Ape!! I didn’t really do much research on this because the one thing I do have is a big dislike to heights. It wasn’t until we got there I realised what I had let myself in for.
So after about a half an hour of safety instructions it was time to do it alone…. Oh my was I scared, but I didn’t give up and managed to climb the first tree, after hooking myself on correctly I took the first obstacle to the next tree, what a sense of relief.. and after another couple of obstacles I took the first of 4 zip wires back down to ground level. We then moved onto the course, which was even higher. Things were going OK until I had to swing myself over to the platform on a rope…. Let’s just say I needed a lot of coaching, and without my girlfriends I really don’t think I would have achieved it, all what was going through my head was how the devil am I going to get down if I don’t do this!!
The course took about 3 hours to complete. What a sense of achievement when I completed the course. I really did feel very proud of myself. Maybe now when I go on one of the ships that have a rock climbing wall I might be able to give it a go!!
So what’s on the agenda next… A few of my friends are doing the 666 challenge in November, so it looks like I may be joining them. Again I will not do much research. All I know it is extreme fitness for 6 hours, 6 minutes and 6 seconds…. Run by a boot camp instructor..
