Holland America – Koningsdam

Last weekend I was lucky enough to be invited to Amsterdam to visit Holland America’s newest ship the MS Koningsdam.  I have never been on an Holland America ship so was really looking forward to it, oh and also the fact that we were in Amsterdam for the night too.

An early morning departure from Birmingham we arrived in Amsterdam, took the train to Amsterdam Central and made our way to the hotel.  We dropped our bags off and then went on a 2 hour walking tour.  The guide took us all round the streets of Amsterdam.  It was tiring but well worth it. I have to say I do love Amsterdam.  We had a lovely lunch which was well needed after such a long day and then headed back to our hotel to catch up on some sleep, as in the evening we were being taken on a dinner River Cruise, which was fantastic.

The ship is based in Amsterdam for the summer season and sails the Northern parts of Europe.

The ship is very modern with an impressively designed atrium which resembled a harp, with a music theme continuing throughout the ship.

My favourite part of the ship was the Lido market which is traditionally known as the buffet restaurant.  Each stall had a different variety of food from freshly ready-made sandwiches, sushi, Pizzas, full roasts and an extensive salad bar this names just a few.  The area was nice and bright and felt very relaxed in there.

We viewed a variety of staterooms and all were of a high standard, featuring the usual layout.  The ocean view cabins did seem quite spacious and what I liked was they had a sofa area.  Some of the balcony cabins have a larger balcony due to its corner position.

The ship had a great feeling of space, some lovely areas to sit and relax and enjoy your surroundings.  There was a large cinema screen overlooking the pool area, I especially loved the sofas and the cabana beds up on the second tier!!

Another favourite part of the ship for me was the Greenhouse Spa and Salon, what a feel of relaxation,  I really could imagine spending an afternoon there.  The entrance was beautiful, there was a small round pool that had an umbrella effect waterfall, a very calming environment.
