Cruise is the way to holiday!!

After our Orlando holiday, we have decided that lengthy waits in departure lounges, jet lag, queues in parks, and heat is not exactly our perfect holiday. We spent a night before our flight at an airport hotel as we had an early morning flight. Then there was the usual airport stress of checking in and security. Our return flights were delayed, we almost missed a connecting flight and literally had to run from one plane to another,  and we all suffered from the jet lag for at least 2 days after the holiday.

Nothing beats the leisurely drive to Southampton and arriving around 10.30 am,  only to have breakfast in the Windjammer 45 minutes later!  Your cruise holiday starts immediately, even your luggage is taken to your stateroom.  On a land holiday with children, you are constantly having to buy drinks and snacks and then there are the added costs of eating out each night.  A self- catering holiday, also involves the buying of food, cooking, cleaning up and having to make your bed.  A cruise holiday involves none of that, you only do the want-to’s.

Once on the ship and especially if you have a drinks package there are no nagging voices – “I am thirsty” or “I am hungry”. Everyone is free to do as they please and eat and drink when and how often they want. We generally have a rule that we eat as a family at breakfast and dinner.

Cruising in the summer can get hot but the whole ship is air-conditioned and as the ship cruises the sea breeze does keep the pool areas cool. If you cruise as we do then there are no other costs. Most ports are easily navigatable on foot and you do not need to do all those expensive excursions if you just want to explore the local town.

If I add up all our extras such as getting to Gatwick, the hotel the night before and all the eating out at restaurants, our 10 days worked out a lot more expensive than a 12-night cruise.
