What a Saga

Saga have just announced that Their ship, The Saga Ruby has had to delay it’s final World voyage yet again.

The 40 year old ship was due to set sail on the 7th January, a welcome relief for her many passengers as the tempratures in the UK plummit whilst on the other side of the world it continues to rise, but has encountered numerous problems.

The damaged ship will not now leave until February 20th — some six weeks after
her original departure date — cutting the cruise from 109 days to 66 days.

It is the is the 2nd time in three months that Saga Ruby has had engine problems: in November the ship arrived at the port of Porto in Portugal with engine trouble serious enough to force the line to cancel the remainder of the cruise back to Southampton. It was sent for a three week-long dry-dock in Bremerhaven, Germany, at the cost of £4 million, which included refurbishments as well as a complete plant and machinery overhaul. However the damage to the crank shaft was not discovered during this overhaul, “Very disappointing” was the response from a Saga spokesman!!!

The good news for Saga is that only 10 passengers are ‘considering’ cancelling. Lets hope that all 655 passengers are compensated generously. World Voyages are a once in a lifetime dream for many of us and take a lifetime to save for.

What do you think an adequate compensation package should consist of? Let me know or share on our Cruise Forum.
