With so many household big names to choose from it is understandable that when looking to book your next cruise other cruise operators are overlooked.
Over the last few weeks I have had a few clients asking about Saga cruises and what they are like.
Saga do River cruises all over Europe including the Russian Waterways and Ocean Cruises around the whole world.
As you may know Saga Holidays is aimed at the over 50s market and their Ocean and Rivers cruises are the same, something that appeals to a lot of holiday makers, something else to appeal too is the size of their ships.
When you go onto Saga’s website this is there 1st paragraph.
‘With first-class service, fine dining, opulent surroundings, top entertainment and port of calls at an array of exciting destinations, our cruises evoke that ‘holiday of a lifetime’ feeling every step of the way. Exclusively for the over 50s, your cruise is a tailor-made experience ideal for meeting like minded people and making new friends – whether travelling accompanied or solo.’
Saga have 2 Ocean ships, The Saga Sapphire and the Saga Pearl II, the Pearl II is set to retire in 2019 when the new Spirit of Discovery joins the fleet.
The Sapphire is a 37,301 tonne ship that holds 720 passengers and 415 crew. Spread over 12 decks has 1 main restaurant as well as a speciality Fusion restaurant, Beach club restaurant, buffet and outside BBQ on the sunny days, choose a fixed dining time or opt for the open dining, the choice is yours.
The Pearl II is a tiny 18,591 tonne ship with just 449 passengers and 252 crew members. With just 7 decks this gives it a lovely Boutique feel and the service, dining and all round attention to detail does not let you down.
The Pearl II has 2 main restaurants and offers just the 1 sitting, from 7pm to 9pm so you can arrive when you like knowing you do not need to rush off for the next sitting.
At all mealtimes, the ship’s restaurants have an open-dining approach, so you can enjoy socialising and meeting new guests. If you’d prefer, you can request a fixed table for dinner with the Maître d’ at the start of your cruise
Saga liken their dining experience to a visit to the best restaurant in town, but of course it’s every night. And if you want a lazy day 24 hour room service is avaiable.
Saga cruises offer inside, outside, balcony and suite cabins and also offer cabins priced and designed for the single passenger.
I read a review a few months ago of a P&O customer of 20 years trying out a Saga cruise, click here to read their thoughts to the trip and to Saga.
