P&O, Iona, what is it all about?

P&O new ship Iona is now well on sale and going very well, many customers are very excited in this ship and it does look great.

Having Googled Iona the name is actually quite fitting. P&O as a company can trace their roots back to Scotland, and Iona is an island off the Scottish coast. You can see the sea from anywhere you are on the island, much the same as you can whilst on board a ship. 🙂

The first, of many, bits of steel was cut on the 25th April this year and she is due to launch in May 2020. You can start to book your place on board from September 2018 and if it’s anything like Britannia’s launch, I’m pretty certain there will be a HUGE amount of you booking on that 1st day.

The ship will have a capacity of 5200 guests dwarfing their current largest vessel, Britannia’s 3647 capacity. She will also be P&O’s greenest ship, as she is to run on LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) which is a British cruise market first.

No intricate details have been revealed as of yet, however, P&O have stressed that they will keep the focus very much on food, drink and entertainment. In keeping with this, she will have 17 places to eat with 7 speciality restaurants and 12 bars. Impressive numbers! There will also be a huge dome on the top deck of the ship and a half mile long outdoor covered promenade giving passengers the option to dine al fresco.

I’m quite looking forward to more details being drip-fed to us and I will no doubt be blogging about the Iona more in the future.
