My time on Quantum of the Seas

Last weekend I had the pleasure of going on board the Quantum of the Seas for 2 nights, the purpose for me was to see the ship and experience all the new innovative features she has, for Royal Caribbean it was a trial run to iron out any issues before its maiden voyage transatlantic the following day. I think we all got out of it what we wanted.

Boarding the ship was a breeze, the quickest embarkation ever and a massive thumbs up, it was part of RCs Smart check-in.

I arrived in the terminal building and was immediately approached by a check-in lady, not behind a desk but wondering freely in the terminal building. She had a Tablet with her equipped with a camera and a passport scanner. She scanned my E-ticket boarding pass, took my photo, scanned my passport and asked had i been ill in the last 24 hours. That was it, i was checked in and ready to board the ship, From entering the building to getting onto the gang plank, about 5 minutes.

As soon as I entered the ship on Deck 5 I was met by the splendor of the Quantum’s Royal Esplanade, Quantums version of The Promenade. The Royal Esplanade covers 2 decks where you will find the retail shops, Cafes, A Music Hall that spans 2 decks with live music, lots of seating, a large dance floor and bars. Also to be found are numerous styles of bars including the Bionic bar, no barmen, just robotic arms, the casino, customer service and the sales team. Spontaneously you will also find Dreamwork parades, shows and productions here, a clue to something about to happen is when small platforms/ stages are set up, normally around Sorrento’s.

At each end of the ship is the main entertainment area, The Royal Theatre than spans 3 decks and Two70 the spans 2 decks.

Both venues are fantastic with for what I saw over the 2 nights great performances.

The Theatre had the Broadway hit show Mamma Mia, it was identical to the London show word for word, costumes and songs and was performed very professional, I would say that the sound was the best I have heard for a show, better than any London Theatre.

Two70 is where futuristic entertainment meets dancers and singers. The back drop is nothing but 2 decks of windows looking out the back of the ship, great for having a drink and viewing the panoramic views and even sunsets, but during the night state of the art video projections takes you into a new and wonderful environment.

Adding to the technology this ship has to offer is the smart wrist strap. This strap is used the same way as your room key but strapped to your wrist so no forgetting it or losing it.

Wifi is available throughout the ship and therefore your kids are likely to run out of battery on their mobile phone quite quickly, well RC also offer a mobile portable charger. Charge it up and then stick it in your bag or pocket with a USB lead to your phone to recharge whilst on the move.

There is so much to talk about with this ship so over the next few weeks I will be doing some blogs dedicated to Dining, cabins and entertainment including the relaxing parts of the ship.
