Christmas in the Smith house

Well it is almost hear, the most magical time of the year and it only comes once a year.

I am the oldest of 5 children and have wonderful memories of Christmas during the seventies and eighties (as a child). We all got very spoilt at Christmas, staring at around 5am with our stockings.

Santa always bought us a few toys, chocolate coins, an apple and a satsuma, every year. My kids turn their noses to the fruit nowadays but then I thought it was great.

My mum went mad on the decs too, loads of it, up the walls, hanging from the ceiling and a real tree from the local florist, i do miss all this as this year I have caved into my partners preference and left out all the tacky foiled decs 🙁

Still, the kids do not seem to have noticed and what is missing on the inside I have replaced with white christmas lights on the outside of the house, this is the first year of doing it and little does my partner know but I will be extending the light collection over the next few years, so much so that the local wildlife will be able to sleep outside our house in warmth.

My plan for the big day is presents with my 4 year old boy and 6 year old daughter then cooking the dinner, i have always liked cooking a roast and love doing christmas dinner, that will be for 5 of us as my brother-in-law will also be here. Afternoon will be play time for me with the kids and then in the evening my eldest daughters aged 14 and 16 will come over, they have both suggested we put our mobiles away and have a board game night, what a great idea and so refreshing, we are all looking forward to that. We have Jibber Jabber purchased, especially for the evening.

I’ll have a few Baileys during the day and maybe a little bit of Port, lots of food, but most of all doing my best to make christmas day memorable for my children as my parents did for me.

Happy christmas to you all. x
