Today was another Port of Call day, this time in Le Havre where there where a few excursion options, the most popular being a day trip to Paris. For those that are not aware Paris is some 2.5 hours away by coach so the day can be very long and tiring.
For those that did not fancy that could spend a day in Le Havre.
Founded in the 16th century, Le Havre on the English Channel, at the mouth of the River Seine in Normandy, is one of the the chief seaports of France. Although badly damaged in World War II, Le Havre retains several old buildings, some of them restored after 1945. The impressive modernist St Joseph church, Town Hall and seafront Fine Arts Museum are unmissable, while the Musee de I’Ancien Havre and the Gothic Cathedral are among surviving echoes from the city’s past.
On a good day Le Havre has a great beach with plenty of fine fish restaurants to dine at.
However today was not a good day (Weather wise). The British ‘April Showers’ had found its way across the English Channel and washed out all on board activities such as the in-line skating, Crazy Golf, rock Climbing wall, Basketball and Football.
With all the above going on I was expecting the ship to be very busy in-side, especially down the Royal Promenade. How wrong I was though.
Where was everyone?
On board the ship there was plenty of activities to enjoy and participate in even though this was a ‘port of call’ day.
All this as well as the Spa, cinema, gym, shopping, bars and dining, Ice Skating and much more.
My highlights of the day would be around my dining experiences.
Where I live there is an OKDiner, an American 50s style burger restaurant, Happy Days style and I love it.
Well Royal Caribbean has its own version, Johnny Rockets.
This Restaurant can be found on the Deck 12.
There is a $5.95 cover charge to dine here which I thought was very good, especially for the experience, however it was not until I got my bill that I realised that the (amazingly thick) Milkshake was another $5.50, although featured on the menu is not included in the cover charge. Now if I was treating a family of 4 this would be quite expensive and certainly not value for money when I compare it to my local OKDiner.
I thought the Burger was very greasy and the chips not great. The onion rings tasted of…. Well just rings but the milkshake was superb.
The Restaurant plays 50s and 60s music all day. The tracks are selected by little juke boxes scattered through out and take traditional American dime coins, supplied by the staff so guests can choose their favourite tracks.
Throught-out the day, probably every hour or so all the staff break into a song and dance, 50s/ 60s style of course. This was good fun and got everyone’s cameras out to record the moment
The rest of my day was spent looking around the ship, watching some shows in the lounges and getting a nap before tonight’s evening meal and night out.
This evening I went to Giovanni’s restaurant, one of the many specialty restaurants on the Adventure of the Seas.
This was a very fine dining experience that catered for table sizes of any party size.
The restaurant had a dimmed lighting style that complimented the quiet and private feel the restaurant gave.
I sat a table for 5 so we decided to have a selection of starters that we could share between us, personal starters where also available
My main meal was the Lamb, as it often is when i get the choice, beautifully cooked with the meat falling off the bone when I need it too.
Other photos from the night.
So to the end of the night and my entertainment highlight of this 4 night cruise.
A Beatles tribute band and a very good 1 at that in the Theatre. The show lasted for 60 minutes with some great cover versions and a bit of Scouse comedy chucked in.
