Word has it that there is going to be a new commercial cruise terminal on the Thames at Greenwich!
The planning board has given consent for a new development at Enderby Wharf which will allow mid-size ships to dock.
Mid-size ships measure up to 230m in length and a maximum passenger capacity of up to 1600. Ships of this size include P&O’s Adonia, Fred Olsen Balmoral, Costa Classica, some Thomson ships, Holland America ships such as Ryndam and Veendam and then the 6 star Luxury ships from Regent Seven Seas, Oceania and Crystal.
Now there is nothing to say that these above ships are coming to this new port but i am sure what ever ships do dock in Greenwich will be a great boost to the surrounding economy.
Of course and as always local residents voiced their concerns that the development will increase noise and pollution.
The development is expected to include almost 1200 new homes as well as restaurants, cafes and bars.
In true Mayor Boris Johnson style he has given backing to this new developement whilst dismissing those locals that fear it
All is expected to be operational in 2017!
What do you think to this?
I think this is a great idea and I am looking forward to seeing how it all comes along!
