We’ve all seen the River cruise adverts but is that enough to make you look into it more? For me before I joined cruising the answer was no.
Why would I want to get on a small boat going up and down a river? Surely I could do that on the Norfolk Broads and……. I could steer the thing too!
How uneducated was I.
River cruising is about getting to the heart of the excursion without a bus transfer, about dining in a dining room and not a dining hall, being able to go to cruise seminars and interacting up close with the experts.
It’s about meeting like minded cruisers and making great friendships or sitting in a quiet personal spot and watching historic sites flow by.
Many of the River cruise companies even have exclusive shows and tours, for example a night in Vienna watching a show can sometimes be in a venue or a room just for that cruise company.
And with most of the river cruise lines all excursions are included and with some even the drinks and tips are included as standard rather than a promotional deal.
With the largest vessels carrying no more than 170 passengers it can be excepted that a river cruise does cost more than your average Ocean cruise but then an Ocean cruise will not include excursions.
Fewer passengers means a quieter experience around the pool and entertainment areas, it means there is more chances to do you preferred excursions and more importantly no queues at the bars.
When cruising there is always a view either side of the ship.
River cruising is an amazing experience and is currently the fastest growing product for travel.
The most popular itineraries are the Danube, Typically Amsterdam through to Budapest, there’s the Rhine doing Amsterdam to Zurich
but for the more adventurous there are some amazing itineraries in Vietnam, Cambodia and China.
