I was talking yesterday with one of my guests who has recently returned from the Emerald Princess, being his first cruise he had a lovely time.
However, he said to me, there was this strange event in the main dining room. The Baked Alaska Parade! Not something I have heard or come across before. However, the bazar fact was that the waiters would parade in to the main dining room on the last evening holding Baked Alaska’s, I have no clue to why and if anyone knows, please do get in touch!
But it gets more strange – the Baked Alaska’s where in fact Fake! Plastic models of the famous puddings. In fact, he said to me that Baked Alaska wasn’t even on the menu.
So picture this, you are sat at the table, all the waiters come in holding plastic Baked Alaska’s! You can look but you can’t have?!
Having done a little research this was a big thing in the 80’s where the waiters and even the chefs would once parade around the dining room holding a flaming Baked Alaska.
They say that this has all but disappeared on the Ocean’s – well apparently all but Princess and is found mainly on River Cruises! Not that anyone has told me they have experience this on a River Cruise!
In need of some help here! Has anyone else come across this?
What is the most bazar thing you have seen on a cruise?
