I must admit when it comes to the world of Silversea, I am a big fan. Having been on the likes of Crystal, Seabourn, Oceania, Regent I must say my favourite and first choice to go back on would be Silversea. They are all very nice but have very different styles. The only problem is with the Ultra Luxury Cruise Lines is that drinks are included, and that’s from your Soft Drinks up to your high-level Champagnes if you like your bubbles.
Now I can hear lots of people saying why is that a problem! But for me, I do not drink and I had this conversation with someone today looking at a Seabourn Cruise – Of course the drinks are included but this would be worked in to the overall prices that you pay and therefore someone who has a G&T before dinner, a couple glasses of wine and a Brandy before bed is going to rack up more of a bill, than little old me with my orange juice and hot chocolate.
When it comes to the World of Ultra Cruising, it is not all about the fact that drinks are included, you get more itinerary driven cruises, bigger rooms and suites, a more personal service, tips and tours included, Butler service and of course an Ultra Luxury Ship but at the end of the day when you are spending £10,000 for a weeks cruise, you want to make sure you are getting value for money – So the big question is would it, make a difference to you if you did not drink… at the end of the day it is more desirable to a couple that like a drink to a couple who are T-Total. So why don’t they do a package which just includes the soft drinks – that would far appeal to me more than paying for something that I would not use. To all you none-drinkers out there – would you agree?
This has really been more so on my mind as Silversea have also made the move to put Silver Wind under the knife in her refurbishment in 2020 which will turn her in to a Ice-Class ship meaning she will be able to do more itineraries in the Polar Regions which is great as the choice in ships in that part of the world is rather limited. This is not the first time Silversea have done this as a couple of years ago we saw Silversea do the same with the Silver Cloud.
Silversea will cruise new destinations such as the Arctic and Antarctica, whilst during her refit Silversea have said she will undertake a ‘Musification’ which will see her modernised akin to the lines newest ship, the Silver Muse.
She will also be joined in the ‘Musification’ upgrades as the Silver Whisper was refurbished up in December 2018.
So are you tempted by Silversea? What are your thoughts on drinks packages?
