This week Royal Caribbean have announced that Empress of the Sea will return to the Royal Caribbean fleet in early 2016 after an extensive refurbishment.

This is following a restructuring of the Madrid-based sister company also owned by Royal Caribbean International which has been where Royal Caribbean and Celebrity in the past have de-promoted some of there older ships to.

Sailing as the Nordic Empress and the Empress of the Seas between 1990 and 2008 she was purchased by Pullmantur in 2006. She is one of the smaller ships in the fleet weighing in at 48,563 Gross Tons and having a passenger capacity of 2020 guests. Her name hasn’t changed much over the years as she is now just call Empress.

This comes as Royal Caribbean also announced that they would not move Majesty of the Seas after plans to sell her, so bigger is not always better!

Have you sailed on Empress, Nordic Empress or Empress of the Seas?

Finally she will return home in February 2016, and may I be the first to welcome you home!
