Princess Cruises is now officially under-way with the construction of its 3rd Royal Class ship which will be the same as Royal and Regal Princess. You may or may not know that she will also be a sister to the P&O Britannia. When P&O built Britannia they took out an option to have a second ship however that has now been put on hold and the 4th Royal Class ship has been given to Princess.
The 3,560 passenger ship which is yet to be named will be launched in Summer 2017 and will homeport year round from Shanghai, the Far East has been a strong part of the Princess Cruises cruise calendar so I suppose it’s only fitting to have a brand new ship based out there, however Royal Caribbean are following suit with Oasis and Quantum also moving to the Far East.
As part of the celebrations a traditional Chinese lion dance preceded the keel laying of the ship which is being built specifically for the Chinese market. She will have many of the same features as her sisters such as Movies under the Stars and the Sea Walk. She will also be tailored for the cruisers from China and feature an expanded duty free shipping experience.
More details on the ships features and what she will be doing will be launched later this year.
What do you think they will call her, and would you travel to the Far East for a new ship?
