Ocean Princess to join Oceania as Oceania Sirena.

Not long again we had some news that Regent and Oceania had been brought out by Norwegian Cruise Line who know own both brands.

Well now I am excited as it has been announced the Ocean Princess currently owned by Princess Cruises will sell be sold to Oceania Cruises becoming the fourth ship in the fleet of the same size.

The Ocean Princess is known as the R Class and is part of 8 sisters, Azamara have 2, Oceania currently have 3, Princess 2 and P&O have 1. If you would like to have more information on the Class and what ships are classed as the R Class

There have been talks of Oceania expanding the fleet, along with the 3 R Class ships they also have the 2 newer ships that are purpose built for Oceania, whereas the R Class come from a cruise line which is no longer in operation.

The two larger ships are considerable bigger, known as the Oceania Marina and the Oceania Riviera. They feature a more vast range of accommodation, restaurants and also entertainment venues.

The fourth ship has already been named, and wait for it – ‘Oceania Sirena’ and will join the fleet in late April 2016, however she will be delivered to Oceania in March 2016 when she will undergo a $40 million refurbishment in Marseille to bring the ship up to the same standards are the other ships in the Oceania fleet.

Kevin Sheehan, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., parent company of Oceania Cruises said “The acquisition of Sirena provides measured capacity growth based on the proven platform of Oceania Cruises’ highly regarded mid-size ships,”

“Our belief in the Oceania Cruises brand and our commitment to its growing base of loyal guests were the rationale behind our decision to bring Sirena into the fleet.”

“The addition of Sirena opens up an entire array of new itinerary options for Oceania Cruises as we think about our deployment strategy,”

“The award-winning guest experience delivered on our ships, coupled with a collection of innovative itineraries that cater to new markets, will combine for an alluring siren song for both our current and future guests.”

I must admit I think this is a great move for Oceania as I must say I prefer the smaller ships as they refine what cruising is all about.
