Silver Whisper is one of the larger ships in the Silversea fleet. Totaling in at 28,258 gross tonnage she is a similar size to the Adonia sailing in the P&O fleet, and again similar to Crystal, Silver Whisper only carries 382 guest, difference is that Adonia carries 710 guests.
After doing Silver Cloud last year I was really looking forward to seeing one of the larger ships in the fleet and on the 9th September I had my chance as I was invited on-board whilst she was in Southampton.
Silversea in case you didn’t know, operate in the 6* Ultra Luxury Market. They are all Suite Ships and offer Butler service in nearly every accommodation grade and most importantly they are fully inclusive so all your drinks including Champagne are included as are the Gratuities.
We did also have the pleasure in the morning of watching the MSC Orchestra sail in which was lovely as you tend to find they always sail in and dock much earlier and it’s more difficult to see them.
Silver Whisper did not disappoint, she was simply stunning and like the Silver Cloud, she is much more down to earth, a more homely luxury. Silversea’s motto is coming on a Silversea Cruise is like coming home. However don’t take my word for it, have a look for yourself.
Starting from the very bottom of the ship, this is also where you will find the Vista Suites, these are still as spacious as the Veranda Suites with the exception they have the Picture window rather than the Balcony.
Other than that, here you have the Restaurant which is simply stunning, elegant and sophisticated but not over the top as some main dining rooms are. The service is exceptional and the food served in here is absolutely beautiful.
Up on Deck 5, again we have accommodation on this deck, but Silversea also have a what is called a Terrace Suite, which offers a shared Balcony, so just be aware that someone can walk past your balcony doors, and you wouldn’t want to sleep with them open but this can be a much more cost effective way to get a balcony.
Towards the middle of this deck we have the Casino and Boutique, the Casino is rather small for an American ship with a handful of gaming tables. The Boutique’s is has everything from ship branded gifts, clothing and Jewelry.
Directly in the Middle you have the lobby, here we had the delight of meeting the Captain. He has been with Silversea for 20 years and was the Captain on the Maiden voyage of the Silver Cloud which was the first ship in the fleet.
You will also find Reception, Concierge and the Cruise Consultant here.
On the back you have The Bar, this is in a lovely position. A perfect place where you can come for after dining drinks before the show as you can access the Show Lounge very easily from here. The colours used in here really do work and it just says quality in the furnishings.
Deck 6 is majority accommodation. You do however also have the Show Lounge on this level which is big enough to seat everyone on board, you will find on the first and last evening that the entertainment in here is very low key as Silversea have found that guests prefer this to get over the Jet lag.
Deck 7 again mainly given up to accommodation but one thing I will say, because she is such a small ship she only has on corridor directly in the middle of the ship so it’s much wider and all the accommodation is much deeper.
Towards the back you have the Card room and Conference Room, these rooms can be combined to have a much bigger room, great if you are planning a party on board or if you fancy treating the office to a conference on board.
The Humidor is one of the only places you can smoke on board, this is a lovely area to come and relax and you can have a cigar. Other than here there is a couple places up on deck but you are not allowed to smoke anywhere else on-board.
Le Champagne is the Specialty restaurant, this is only open at dinner time and can come with a service charge. The menu in here is a tasting menu and all wines to accompany the dishes are included. Reservations in here are a must.
Le Terrazza, when it comes to a Buffet restaurant this is one of my favorites so far, the serving area is right on the far side and altogether so you don’t end up with lots of people wondering around, there is plenty of seats in here for everyone on-board to dine at the same time, plus there is a beautiful open back to her which means you can dine al-fresco.
Deck 8 is the main pool deck, there is one large pool, big enough for a ship of this size, with two whirlpool spas. If the pool is not your thing there is an array of sunbed and day loungers to chill out on and read a book with a large glass of Champagne.
You have the Pool Grill and Pool Bar here for dining by the pool, Bliss!
There is also a Library and Internet cafe on this deck should you fancy checking your emails or borrowing a book on a long sea day.
Directly on the back you have Panorama Lounge, this is a much more laid back bar but in the evening this is where you can come for a more low key source of entertainment. There is also a dance floor up here where on occasions they will have a late night disco.
Deck 9 is majority open to the deck below but does have more sun loungers which overlook the pool area below. There is also a Jogging track at the back to avoid people jogging on the more used areas of the ship.
As we go up to Deck 10, this is where you will find the Spa, again more than you would expect on a ship of this size, an array of treatment rooms along with a men’s and women’s Sauna and Steam Room. You also have the Saloon up here if you fancy a treatment.
You do also have a good sized fitness center and an array of lessons going on throughout your cruise.
On the front you have the Observation Lounge, this is almost like a Crow’s Nest, but however there is no bar area up here so it’s more of a place where you can come and watch the world go by in peace. There is tea and coffee making facilities up here.
You can walk all the way around deck 10 which has some stunning views of the Bow of the ship below.
We did have a look at a range of accommodation on board and they do all come with Butler Service, have a look and let me know which one you would like to stay in!
First up was the Grand Suite, one of the Largest Suites on board and has a position overlooking the bow of the ship, similar to the Owners Suite but the difference being that the Owners Suite is midships. This can be made up as one or two bedrooms with the addition of a standard Veranda Suite
The Silver Suites are my favorite, it’s one of the smaller suites but perfect for two people.
Veranda Suite, bearing in mind these are about the same size as a Mini Suite so these certainly are not small!
So have you sailed with Silversea, what are your thoughts? Anyone fancy giving them a go?
As always would love to hear from you!
