It was announced yesterday that some major changes would be happening at Holland America. Carnival Corporation are removing the MS Ryndam and the MS Statendam from the Holland America cruises fleet and moving them across the world to be part of the P&O Australia fleet. This is quite normal for the P&O Australia fleet as some of you will remember this is what happened to the Ocean Village ships, which I personally think was a mistake, but maybe they were a little ahead of their time?
Holland America is due to have a new ship join the fleet in February 2016 and she will be the new Pinnacle Class of ship at a total of 99,500 tons and carrying 2,660 passengers which is about the same capacity as the two smaller ships put together. But I ask is bigger always better? With the Ryndam out of Dover this year I feel that Holland America could be moving the wrong ship. Many people I have spoken to have loved the Ryndam and I am sure that this news will sadden.
Have you been on the Ryndam or Statendam? Do you think this is the right way forward for Holland America?
The ships will join the P&O Australia Fleet in November 2015
