Majesty of the Seas to leave Royal Caribbean – Good move?

You may have seen towards the end of last month that Majesty of the Seas will leave the Royal Caribbean and join the Pullmantur brand, which is where nearly all Ex-Royal Caribbean and Celebrity ships end up, although not huge with the UK Market, they are more known to the European Market offering value for money all inclusive Latin Style cruises, to be honest to a similar style of Island and Thomson Cruises.

Majesty of the Seas last cruise will depart on April 29^th 2016 nearly 24 years after she was launched for a 3 night cruise after that she will undergo a dry dock refit before joining the Pullmantur Fleet, giving her all the changes that she needs to fit in with the Pullmantur brand. Will you be cruising on the Majesty before she leaves?

Richard D Fain, Chairman and Chief executive officer of Royal Caribbean Cruises said “Majesty of the Seas has created wonderful memories for millions of guests, and we expect this record of success to continue as she transitions to Pullmantur,” then went on to say “The vessel’s transfer is an excellent business opportunity for both Royal Caribbean and Pullmantur. We are fortunate that our mix of brands allows us the flexibility and opportunity to expand in key strategic markets.”

This is something that many of the cruise lines do, for example before the Arcadia joined the P&O fleet she was due to be a Holland America ship, then the Queen Victoria before transferring across to P&O, it’s a clever way of moving ships to fill supply and demand.

Majesty of the Seas joined the fleet in April 1992 and totalling at 74,077 gross tons was a big ship at the time she was built, cruising with 2350 and 912 crew she offers something for everything.

Following the move Sovereign, Monarch and Majesty will all operate under Pullmantur. Have you sailed on Pullmantur?

Are Royal Caribbean making a good move taking the Majesty out of the Royal Caribbean fleet?

I personally am a fan of the smaller ships, I think they offer you more charm and a cruise experience. Give me a beautiful old style ship to the mega ships of today with rock climbing wall and ice skating. I think Royal Caribbean would have been better spending some money to keep her within the Royal Caribbean fleet as a new small ship under 100,000 gross tons is not on the cards anytime soon.
