I’m off for a Voyage of Discovery in Portsmouth…

On the 14th June I have been given the chance to visit MV Voyager when she docks in Portsmouth.

This is also the first time for me to visit the port of Portsmouth, as I have only done Southampton and fly-cruises so I am eager to see what the terminal is like and how the day to day running takes place compared to Southampton. I do know that the port of Portsmouth has spent a lot of money on the new cruise terminal and It cant be any harder to navigate than Southampton at the moment what with all the road works!

Portsmouth is a  great port to start from with Gunwharf keys where you can get discounts on some last minute items of clothing or why not get some pictures of your cruise ship from 110 meters up in the Spinnaker Tower which has just been awarded ‘Attraction of the Year’?

I had a guest who travelled with them earlier in the year and actually came back and said that they will never go with them again due to many of the public areas being closed off for private events!

For example the Crows Nest was shut for nearly the whole cruise due to it being taken over for a Bridge group!

Have you travelled with Voyages of Discovery? Have you encountered this whilst cruising with them?

The Voyager will be one of the smallest ships I will see this year at only 15,271 gross tons and carrying just 540 passengers.

Having never seen a Voyages of Discovery ship and the fact that the only smaller ships I have seen have been part of the ultra luxury market such as Seabourn and Silversea, I am feeling quite reserved as to whether a ship of this size operating in the ‘value for money’ side of the market would have enough glamour and wow factor to make me want to book a cruise on her.

However Voyager is a discovery ship as the name of the cruise line suggests and I am looking forward to being able to forge my own opinions on her, and of course on the food.

Have you been on the Voyager and what are your thoughts? Thumbs up or down for you?

If anyone is interested in sailing on Voyager and wants to know something in particular then please let me know!
