Cruising is fast becoming one of the safest ways to go on holiday, after all the recently attacks around the world, people are starting to ask where is safe to go on holiday. With the high levels of security it would be near impossible for a large scale attack to happen whilst on a cruise.
However we are seeing more and more ports being removed from cruise schedules, Of recently cruise lines have stopped ports in the Black Sea, Tunis has also been remove after the tragic events in recent months and now Costa Cruises have decided to pull Istanbul and Izmir from all itinerary’s, they are being replaced with ports of call in Greece, Italy and Malta. To me personally I have never been a huge fan of Turkey and would rather visit somewhere else like Mykonos or Santorini but are we going to get to the stage where the cruises just spend 7 days at sea then come home, not sure that I would personally want to do this every year, don’t get me wrong I love my sea days but just not every day, would you want to spend that long at sea?
The changes to Costa will affect three ships in there fleet, Costa Pacifica, Deliziosa and neoClassica, this is probably the right move for Costa, as another problem on one of their ships would thrust them back in to the limelight and enough people already say to me, ‘We don’t mind who we cruise with, just not Costa’.
Costa released a statement saying ‘This decision will ensure the best experience for our guests.’ Which I agree it will, if you don’t feel safe, you are not going to want to leave the ship.
A terrorist attack on the U.S consulate in Istanbul recently has brought the changes in the itineraries but at the moment not all the cruise lines are following suit, but I am sure we are likely to see more in the following months, would it put you off a cruise docking in Turkey?
It does leave us all questioning where is safe to cruise to, but wherever and whenever you are next cruising, stay safe and have a lovely time.
