It has been recently announced that the Adonia which left the P&O fleet in 2015 will return to P&O in 2017. The R Class vessel originally built in 2001 for Renaissance Cruises is only 30,200 gross tons so one of the smaller vessels available, with 7 sisters, majority of which sail for the Luxury brands such as Oceania and Azamara Club Cruises, and Princess Cruises is more what I would call a discovery vessel, her size gives her so much more advantage getting in to those small ports of call, after all Azamara are all about the Destinations.
Adonia although a small vessel does only carry 700 passengers so it’s nice and cosy on board, but one of the things I love about her, it’s almost like stepping back in time, she is a very elegant ship.
Her itineraries are currently on sale from June 2017 which is when she will re-join the P&O. On handing back to P&O Adonia will have upgrades across the ship including a new restaurant – ‘The Glass House’ by Olly Smith, surprising an outdoor cinema on the pool deck, although Britannia doesn’t have this but they have deemed it viable on their smallest ship in the fleet and a generally tidy up with refreshed furnishing and lighter fabrics in the staterooms.
Rumour has it that under Fathom she was too expensive and the American’s didn’t want to pay the costs, although how true that it, I wouldn’t know, but with the choice of ships in the Caribbean I am not surprised she is returning to P&O.
She will operate from Southampton in June to October and then offer fly cruises around the Caribbean and South America from October to March, and then operate a Southampton Season from then to September – after that we are not aware what P&O will be in the Winter 2018/2019.
Adonia was a firm favourite with the P&O market so are you looking forward to hear return?
