Food, Food, Food on a Cunard Cruise.

I have been very fortunate to not only cruise many times but also see many of the cruise ships in dock when they call in to Southampton.  Anyone that knows me will know that I tend to favour the adult themed ships, but no matter what cruise line you go on, you tend to find that the cuisine  is out of this world.  With the new dining concept from Royal Caribbean which is due to be featured on the two new ships – Quantum and Anthem of the Seas, I wanted to get some feedback from you – the cruiser – as to whether you prefer the more traditional dining or would rather have the freedom of choice?

Of course with the freedom of choice, comes the freedom but I do personally think that it also means that you lose the concept of dining which cruising was first based upon.  At the same time however, cruise ships have advanced so much in the last 50 years so of course the dining concepts will be in keeping with the day and age we live in.

On one of my trips I actually decided to pinch the menu (don’t tell anyone!)

So here is a taster to what Cunard can offer you,

Appetisers and Soup

–          Tian of Crab, Avocado and Tomato Vinaigrette

–          Goats Cheese and Apple Terrine, Caramelised Hazelnuts, Beetroot and Spiced Apple Puree

–          Courgette Soup with Mint Oil

(Didn’t have this, so sorry don’t have a photo – Does anyone have one?)

Entrees

–          Fillet of Halibut, Shiitaki Mushrooms, Mange Tout and Bean Sprouts, Pak Choi, Thai Puree and Lemongrass Sauce

–          Grilled Fillet Steak, Blue Cheese Potato Mousseline, Haricots Vert, Shallots, Vintage Port Wine Glaze

–          Tartlet of Hens Eggs, Shallots and Grain Mustard Confit, Russian Salad and Hollandaise Sauce

Desserts

–          Passion Fruit Mousse, Coconut Ice Cream, Exotic Fruit Salad and Coconut Tuille

–          Dark Chocolate Fondant, Caramel Ice Cream and Coffee Analgise

–          Cheese Selection, Fig Chutney and Fine Biscuits

(Again didn’t have this, so sorry don’t have a photo – Does anyone have one?)

So this gives you an idea of what Cunard can offer you, would you sacrifice the freedom of choice when it comes to the main dining room sittings?

As always would love to hear from you and see any pictures that you may have of fine cuisine from your travels.
