Britannia, the latest additional to the family

This time next month I will be aboard the new P&O Britannia and I cannot wait. The biggest cruise ship ever built for the British Market. Over the years I have been very fortunate to travel and see over 30 different cruise ships from the very basic to the most luxurious ships in the World.

More excitingly this is also the day that Britannia will be named, the Godmother is yet to be announced but as you may have seen rumour has it that it could be HM The Queen.

But from the start maybe she was set to name her….

Britannia is a sister to Royal and Regal Princess, and last year I got on Royal Princess and as lovely as it was to see her, I cannot say she was one of my favourites, so I am looking forward to seeing how P&O have used the ship to their tastes.

This is more common for cruise lines to have one skeleton, but décor is different. Take the P&O Azura and Ventura – they are similar in shape and size to the Caribbean, Emerald, Crown and Ruby, in fact if you look at the deck plans, the bars and restaurants are in the same places just different names. The décor they use is very different.

P&O tends to be more modern and clean cut, whereas Princess is more sparkly and flamboyant. I think this does have something to do that the American ships tend to have more money thrown at them.
At 141,000 gross tons she is the biggest cruise ship to sail under the P&O name, here is a video from her Sea trails back last year.

But she did actually hit the water back in February last year, if you would like to see her Float out you can below,

The launch the of Britannia has also seen the change to the entire fleet with the brand new Livery.

 Finally Britannia from the Inside,

I personally cannot wait to be one of the first one board, what is not just a new cruise ship but a piece of history for the British Cruise Industry

Are you set to go on Britannia?
