Finally! And it’s actually very exciting. I’m excited by it anyway.
Adonia is going to be part of a new brand Carnival Corporation have launched called ‘fathom’. This is their statement:
A couple of months ago we advised you that Adonia would be spending the summer of 2016 in the Caribbean, we are now in a position to share with you some exciting news about a ‘special assignment’ that has been given to Adonia by Carnival Corporation.
Carnival Corporation has today announced the launch of a new brand, fathom, focusing on the growing number of people who want to work alongside local communities as part of their travel experience in such areas as education, the environment and economic development. fathom provides a unique opportunity for people who wish to combine their love of travel and a desire to make a lasting contribution to a worthwhile cause.
Therefore, from April 2016, Adonia will be redeployed for the start up period of the operation sailing out of Miami to the Dominican Republic on a weekly basis and travelers will be working on programmes that make a positive social impact on the communities they visit.
fathom is a new brand created by Carnival Corporation. Its primary aim is to allow travellers interested in People to People tourism to have a chance to help local communities abroad. The voyages have been designed to appeal to the American market but of course all nationalities are welcome on board if they choose this travel experience. fathom voyages went on sale as of 4 June. For further information, please visit the fathom website at: www.fathom.org or call +1 855 932 8466. The itineraries currently go up to October 2016 and fathom are working closely with global humanitarian partners to identify new areas with the hope to expand this deployment moving forward. Further information will be provided once confirmed.
We are so proud that a P&O Cruises ship has been chosen to take on this assignment and look forward to working with the fathom team in the future.
There’s lots of info on the fathom website including what you can expect from one of these cruises:
As the Adonia sets sail from the Port of Miami, your adventure begins. During your first two days at sea, focused activities on board will help orient you to the beauty of the country and its customs, and the warmth of its people. You’ll also be focused on building a community with your fellow travelers, as you prepare for your on-ground impact experience. The return voyage from Puerto Plata will offer ample time for reflection, separately and with like-minded others, on how you can continue your personal impact journey after returning to your own community.
The above is information from the fathom website – I think it’s a fantastic idea!
What are your thoughts? Will you miss Adonia? She’s been a firm favourite with cruisers for a long time!
