Have you been to Edinburgh? If so, I need your help!

I’m off to Edinburgh this weekend for a few days. I’m flying up early Friday morning and coming back late Monday night.

I don’t know a great deal about Edinburgh so I’m looking for recommendations from you 🙂

We plan on visiting the castle and I recently discovered that there’s not only a Hotel Chocolat opposite our hotel but it’s an actual RESTAURANT! So of course I’ll be going there too.

I’d love recommendations for places to eat, bars, other places worth visiting, any insider tips you have – anything really that you think we really must do!

We’re staying at the Waldorf Astoria so nice and central and can get to almost anywhere from there.

Things I like (to help with suggestions):

History

Coffee

Chocolate

Good (somewhat healthy) food

Live music

Coffee

Shopping

Sightseeing

Cats

Horses

Chocolate

Oh, and coffee! 🙂

So any nice independent coffee houses with a bit of character too would be great!  Bars that have live bands playing would also be fab. And good restaurants with good food that we can visit in the evenings.  Any sights that are worth visiting – does anyone know if it’s worth going to see Royal Britannia?

I’ll welcome all suggestions as so far, the only definite plans we have are the castle and Hotel Chocolat.
