Disney upset thousands of young guests

But……I can understand why and I personally don’t think it’s as bad as people are making out.

Some of you may know that Disney Cruise Line have been offering a little known service called ‘Mickey Mail’ on their cruises.  This is where guests can hand in items to guest services (pillow cases, picture frames, autograph books etc) and on the last day of the cruise, the items are returned to your stateroom magically signed by all of the characters.

Disney have just announced that they will no longer be offering this service from the following dates:

  • Disney Dream – August 7, 20153-Night Bahamian Cruise – Itinerary A from Port Canaveral
  • Disney Fantasy – August 8, 20157-Night Western Caribbean Cruise – Itinerary C from Port Canaveral
  • Disney Magic – August 10, 2015 | 5-Night Mediterranean Cruise – Itinerary B from Barcelona
  • Disney Wonder – August 10, 2015 | 7-Night Alaskan Cruise – Itinerary A from Vancouver

The reasoning behind this is that what started as a little known ‘secret’ is now so widely known that it’s taking up too much of the characters time with thousands of items being sent through guest relations to be signed.  After checking with Disney Cruise Line employees, I’ve had it confirmed that yes, only the actual characters sit ‘backstage’ signing these items – there isn’t a dish washer picking up overtime and signing the autographs for them and quite often they’re sat til gone midnight doing this.  Then they have character breakfasts that start from 7am the next morning and work all day.

Nobody should be expected to work 17 hour a day shifts just to provide someone with an autograph that they could obtain during a Meet and Greet session.

Therefore, I can see why Disney will cease to offer this free service.

So of course there’s been uproar as people have specifically bought items to take on the cruise that they wanted to have signed.

However, as mentioned above, the characters will still offer their usual ‘Meet and Greet’ option where you can meet the character, get their autograph and have your photo taken so it’s not like you won’t have the opportunity to get autographs at all.  Surely it’s better to meet them in person and get their autograph?

There will still be the option for Meet and Greet with characters

Am I missing something? We’re you due to sail on a Disney Cruise and have you heard about this? Let me know your views.
