World War Victory Show

Last weekend I went to the World War 2 Victory show in Cosby Leicestershire.

I have lived in Leicester all my life and didn’t know about this event until friends went last year so I decided to go along and see what it was all about

Apparently it is the largest show of it’s kind in the UK and it is easy to see why.

The detail was amazing as there were camps set up so you can see the conditions that soldiers had to live in, the food they ate and the uniforms they wore.

Some of the tents were so tiny it was hard to imagine anyone having to stay in there even just for a night.

They had dug trenches where they had guns and rocket launchers so the kids could get down into the trenches , wear the hats and even hold the guns.

They were able to have a ride in a tank which they loved and was their most favourite part of the day.

There were many stalls selling collectable items of uniform, vehicle spares etc so for military enthusiasts it must have been amazing.

The best part of the day was when they did a battle re-enactment. Crowds gathered from at least an hour before the show to try and get a good view and it was worth the wait.

They acted out a battle using blank bullets, tanks and aircraft such as the Spitfire and Mustang and the noise was deafening. My children were completely in awe of what those brave soldiers went through to protect our country and for the first time realised the tragedy and devastation caused by war.

Usually that includes a Para drop as part of the re-enactment but there was engine problems that forced that particular aircraft to be grounded so we didn’t actually see that part.

After they have a brilliant air show featuring many different aircraft used in the war.

The food and beverage area had a live singer and dancers providing entertainment from the 1940’s and so many people had got into the spirit of things by wearing clothes and costumes from that era.

Of course no day out is the same without a fun fair so we finished the day off with the kids enjoying the fair.

This is a fantastic day out for all of the family and something completely different to the usual days out we have queuing for rides in theme parks. This was much more interesting and also fun and educational.
