I was very excited to be offered a place on the Norwegian Breakaway Inaugural event at the end of April.
This is a brand new addition to the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet and will be sailing from New York doing 7 night round trip sailings to Bermuda. This is an excellent base because you can add stopovers in New York or other destinations in the USA.
Whilst it would have been nice to join the ship in Bermuda I am still very excited to attend this event in Southampton and get first hand experience of this exciting new ship.
I have cruised with NCL many years ago and had a fantastic time.
I have to say I really enjoyed my cruise but this was before their freestyle concept which means it is less formal and offers complete flexibility for dining.
This is something that really does appeal to me. When I am on holiday I like to try different restaurants and with the huge amount of variety on this ship you would never get bored.
The dining options include the Main Restaurant, Italian, Steakhouse, French Bistro, Irish Pub, Seafood, Noodle Bar, Teppanyaki and a Sushi bar ( some incur a cover charge )
The fact that you choose when you would like to eat is another benefit so there is no need to worry if you are ashore longer than expected or fancy an earlier night you simply choose what time to dine instead of having fixed time dining.
The entertainment is excellent. NCL have always produced excellent theatre productions equally as good as I have seen in the West End.
They have announced they will be showing the hugely popular Rock of all Ages which I am sure will be as much a success as their other productions.
In addition they have also announced that there will be an exciting firework display on every single cruise which will be on the second to last night at sea.
Families are very well catered for and will feature the fleet’s largest facilities for children and teens across their fleet.
The new teen program, dubbed Entourage, will feature Norwegian’s largest facilities on Breakaway. Located on Deck 16, the dedicated space will include foosball and air hockey tables, gaming stations and a video jukebox for late-night dance parties.
Splash Academy, the new moniker for the line’s children’s program, will be divided into Guppies (infants to 2 years), Turtles (3-5), Seals (6-9) and Dolphins (10-12). On Breakaway, the two-deck facilities will be located on Decks 12 and 13, adjacent to the ship’s family cabins.
Babies and toddlers under age three, along with their parents, will also have their own dedicated play space with activities.
The most notable offerings for children include circus workshops (think juggling, plate-spinning and stilt-walking) through a partnership with New York-based Hilario Productions Cirque du Jour and active pursuits like soccer workshops and physical challenges in collaboration with the King’s Foundation and Camps, a U.K.-based organization. Children younger than 3 can take part in art classes, storytelling and mini-workouts with their parents. (There’s no charge for kids younger than 3, but they must be accompanied by a parent.)
The revamped youth programs, which also include family activities like cupcake-decorating, pizza-making and game shows, are set to roll out fleetwide by the end of August.
These type of events are invaluable to us as we are cruise specialists and want to be able to provide you with the best information and advice and without trying the product ourselves it would not to be possible.
I will write about my experience on my return so watch this space but if you have any questions in the meantime please feel free to contact me.
