Celebrity Cruises have just announced that they will no longer be enforcing pre paid gratuities on anyone wanting to book their flexible select dining option which as far as I am concerned is fantastic news.
While I do agree in a fair tipping policy for the hard working crew I have always thought it should be optional because there are people who genuinely prefer to hand over the cash to the individuals concerned so I think this will be a popular move.
Previously people had been forced onto a fixed time traditional sitting to avoid paying the tips and more often than not Celebrity closed the 1st and 2nd sitting down which then forced the tips onto people who may not have even wanted the select dining option in the first place.
Hopefully people will be fair and continue to tip and reward the excellent service that you would receive on a 5* Celebrity cruise.
Royal Caribbean also introduced this policy recently and NCL will also remove tips if you wish to do so.
Do you think this will stop people tipping or do you think it won’t make any difference ?
