This is the final part of my trip to Asia with Royal Caribbean Cruise Line.
Previously I have written about the ship and Singapore so now I will tell you about Malaysia.
Our first port of call was Penang.
The ship didn’t dock until 4pm and we had to be back on board by 9.30pm so this didn’t give us much time to explore or see much of this port at all.
We were booked onto an organised excursion by RCCL which was great because we were off the ship at the earliest opportunity. We visited many temples which to be honest after seeing a couple started to wear a bit thin.
We wanted to see more of the local culture and sample the local street markets but only after speaking with the tour guide were we left to our own devices for an hour to have a walk round and stop for a quick drink. Most of the bars here were Muslim so did not serve alcohol and the ones that did were very limited in choice. Had we had more time in port we could have taken a tour through the countryside and visited local homes which would have been fantastic.
The following day we were in Langkawi which was everything I expected and more.
After our hectic schedule we were tempted to take a taxi to the beach and relax all day but we were advised to visit the waterfalls first.
We negotiated 2 minibuses between 14 of us for the equivalent of £10pp which gave us the bus and driver to take us anywhere for the whole day what a bargain that was.
First they took us to the most beautiful waterfall which was completely unspoilt and much better than Dunns River Falls in Jamaica.
We swam in the falls and were even surrounded by wild monkeys. Some of the group climbed up onto the rocks and jumped into the water but I was sensible and stayed in the pools.
We were then taken to a beautiful beach for some relaxation time. Along the top of the beach were many local bars and restaurants and drinks were very cheap here. They also provide free WIFI which I did use but was very slow.
I decided to go Jet Skiing which I used to love but haven’t done in years. It was amazing skiing across the stunning beach and was even challenged to a race with the boys which I won , they weren’t expecting that !!
All too soon it was time to go back on board but can honestly say that my day in Langkawi was the best day of my trip and I would love to go back there for a holiday or on a cruise again some time.
