It was my daughters 8th birthday last week and every year she has had a big party for all of her friends with disco, magic shows etc and it works out very expensive.
This year Grease the musical is on at De Montfort Hall which is a theatre in Leicester where we live and it happened to be showing on her birthday so we decided instead of paying for another big party we would take her to see this instead.
She was so excited when we told her because she loves music and dancing and everytime I go to see a musical she has wanted to come with me.
She had the Grease CD for her birthday so we had to listen to that in the car and both girls were singing along, they know all the words already.
They both had their bags of sweets and had got dressed up in their shiny black leggings which are back in fashion now so they would look like Sandy.
The show was good but not as good as the last time , it was my 3rd time to see this . I have seen it in the west end but also on a Norwegian Cruise Line cruise many years ago. The cast were fantastic and the choreography and singing was amazing but they changed the story line slightly which I felt took something away from it. The programme saud they have done this because everyone has seen Grease so many times they feel that people will become bored but I think if you choose to go and see Grease it is because you love the storyline as it is.
Having said that I love the music and it was lots of fun especially to see how much my girls were enjoying themselves. Their grandparents joined us and we all had a great time which just goes to show that after all these years Grease still appeals to all age groups.
The following night was not so much fun ( for me and my husband anyway )
We decided that it wasn’t fair that she hadn’t celebrated her birthday with any of her friends so we had a small party at home ( if you call 18 children small ? ) We had a disco and they all played party games and ran riot around my house for 2 hours, then this was finished off with 10 of them staying afterwards for a sleepover.
We didn’t get much sleep that night as the last ones finally fell asleep at 2am so I think next year we will probably stick to a having a party in a hall for a couple of hours because I feel like I’ve aged a good few years in one night !!
