My Greek holiday

I am just back from an amazing holiday in Greece.
I went with my family to the Mitsis Blue Domes hotel in Kardamena which was stunning.

The hotel and grounds were beautiful and the food and drinks were amazing too.

We don’t normally book all inclusive because we prefer to dine out in the local restaurants. I tend to get bored with the buffet food options in all inclusive hotels but this hotel is the exception.
There are 11 restaurants to choose from which include the Main Dining room buffet, Sushi, German, Burger Inn, Pitta Corner, Meze, Pastry Corner plus four A La Carte restaurants which were Italian, Greek, Mexican and Asian.

We ate in the A La Carte most evenings, the food was lovely and they were on a beachfront setting. We used the buffet a couple of times and once for lunch and the choice of food was excellent.
We don’t like sushi but we used the other smaller more casual restaurants for lunch our favourite being the Pitta Corner and Pastry Corner.
The Pastry corner served savoury and sweet crepes and a huge choice of carte d’or ice cream which my kids definitely had their share of.

If you don’t want to move from you sun loungers you can get toasties, hot dogs and ice cream from the pool and beach bars and the ice-cream man also makes his daily rounds straight to your sun beds.
The animation team were brilliant. My girls made lots of friends as usual and for the first time didn’t want to go to kids club but the animation team were around our pool playing with them and keeping them entertained. For the first time we have all said we want to go back which doesn’t normally happen because we like to try different places.
This hotel is on a very steep hill and in almost 100 degrees heat it was hard work walking to the main building at the top but a cocktail usually made it worth the walk. However if you don’t want to walk you can always call for a lift and they will send a golf buggy to pick you up.
As for the situation in Greece we did venture out of our hotel and the bars and restaurants were all fairly busy. We spoke with the locals and they said some days are better than others but generally it is ok. They want to be out of the Euro and think next year will hit them hard but they are prepared for this. The shops were all fully stocked and they were advertising for staff in many places.
We did see people struggling to withdraw cash so if you are going to Greece you need to follow advice and take as much money as you will need for your holiday.
Also the airport was very run down and dirty but this I could cope with.
I hope people don’t avoid going to Greece because it really is a beautiful place and they need tourism now more than ever.
