My weekend in Benidorm with the girl’s

Last week I spent a few days in Benidorm to celebrate my friend Ami’s 40th birthday.
I tried to get her to book a mini cruise but a few of her other friends were not keen so we booked 3 nights in Benidorm instead.
I was looking forward to a few days away from my responsibilities but I was a bit apprehensive about where we were going. Like most people I had an image of what to expect and it wasn’t great.
However I was wrong, after checking in to our hotel our rooms were not quite ready so off we went to the bar for a few drinks while we waited and the views of Levante beach were lovely.

It would be better without the high rise buildings but apart from that the beach itself is beautiful.
There are lots of British style restaurants and bars along the seafront but there was a really fun atmosphere with Brits of all ages partying all day and all night. I have never been anywhere with live bands in all the bars which were packed all day long. There were hen and stag do’s, 30th,40th,50th and 60th birthday celebrations everywhere we went.

We did visit the old town which was lovely. There are lots of small winding streets with lovely tapas restaurants and small Spanish bars if you want to go somewhere more authentic.

We had booked a meal for our last night in a restaurant called Paneils in the old town. The food was amazing and they made a huge effort as a surprise for our friend. The table was decorated and we had bubbly, canapés and a cake arranged for her.

Of course there is the legendary strip and square which we obviously went to and had a great time partying until the early hours. We didn’t go to see sticky Vicky, that was one tourist attraction that didn’t appeal.
I would go back to Benidorm but probably not with my family. As much as I loved the old town there are still too many groups of men drinking all day which I wouldn’t want my kids to be surrounded by . They were not offensive but my kids like to make sandcastles not dodge the beer buckets !!
There is talk of a girl’s weekend away again next year so I am definitely trying to persuade them onto a cruise.
