Disney moves to river cruising

Disney and AMA Waterway are joining together to offer family friendly river cruises from 2016.

This move has really surprised me because I have never been asked for a river cruise for a family with children and is generally something that is taken by adults only.

It will be interesting to see how this works because having children myself it is not a holiday I would consider for my family. I did experience a cruise on the Danube last year with Scenic Tours and had an amazing time.

I would love to try another river cruise with my husband but would leave the kids at home. When they go on holiday they want nothing more than a swimming pool and an ice-cream and we have difficulty dragging them away from the pool at the end of each day.

However they do love visiting new places and even at their young age like to experience new cultures. They also take after me and love their food so perhaps with the right facilities it could be a future consideration.

Disney get everything right when it comes to keeping the kids happy. I know this from my holiday in Florida earlier this year. They know exactly how to keep them entertained and make everything so magical.

Even with the long queues they had thought of ways to keep them occupied so with the expertise of Disney and the 5* standards of AMA Waterways this could prove popular.

They will be introducing family size cabins that will accommodate up to 5 people. They will have theatre and movie nights and special excursions arranged.

Special family excursions will range from family bike rides, archery lessons, medieval activities in castles to strudel making.

There will be interactive games on board and competitions to keep all the family entertained.

They will start with 4 departures in July and one at Christmas and I am sure if it proves popular there will be more to come.
