Everyone who has been to the Caribbean before is probably getting a little tired of the same old ports of call. So you may be interested to know that a new destination has been added to Carnival and P&O itineraries from next year.
The first ship to arrive at Amber Cove is the Carnival Glory on 6th October 2015.
Amber Cove is in the North of the Dominican Republic. This is in the Atlantic rather than the Caribbean but the beaches are still beautiful but the sea not quite as calm as on the south coast in the Caribbean sea.
There will be 37 calls between 8 different Carnival ships between October 2015 and April 2016. During this time more than 100,000 guests will travel to this port. To accommodate this there will be 2 berths that can accommodate 2 large ships at the same time.
I have been to the North of Domincan Republic on holiday with my family and I wouldn’t say it was my favourite holiday destination. The hotel was amazing and the beach was beautiful but I found the people to be rude and unfriendly. However we did spend a lot of time within our hotel being all inclusive and when we did venture out it was a different story, Mainly I am sure because they wanted us to spend our money.
I am sure this port will prove popular because it is somewhere different and would give people a taste of this destination without committing to a longer holiday there.
The excursions available include 4×4 Terracross buggies advenutures, horseback riding, snorkelling and swimming in a natural river and optional tours to Paradise Island.
If you want to be really extravagant you can also hire a private beachside bungalow with a personal chef, bartender and staff to look after your every need.
There is the option to swim with dolphins which is something I have always wanted to do and we finally did this on our holiday to Dominican. It isn’t cheap but was worth every penny.
Another highlight was a catamaran boat trip with a beach BBQ followed by a speedboat trip back. There was time to swim in the crystal clear water where we all held a starfish before getting back on board for a few rum punches before heading back.
P&O will also feature this port in the Azura itineraries from November 2015.
