Top Destinations for 2014

Where oh where to take your next holiday.  On land or Sea ?  Who to ask? I know The Lonely Planet, they always have some fantastic recommendations.  They are usually away from the ordinary and totally unforgettable destinations.

On this years list is Brazil, which is no surprise with the two biggest sporting events to be held there. The World Cup (football I think) followed by the Olympic Games two years later.  It has such a diverse landscape from sun-drenched beaches to Mountains covered in amazing rainforests.

The Greek Islands also features in the top 10. With the woes of last years economic climate holiday makers gave Greece a wide birth so this year the prices have gone down to attract us all back to its Greek charm.

Now Yorkshire England is also up there. This made me smile because Harrogate was voted the happiest place in Britain (I only live a few miles from there). Leeds with the Tour de France  starting there and Bradford declared worlds first UNESCO city of film, all local to me.

Italy is most certainly a must! If spending time in Venice or the Amalfi Coast, this area will have a massive impact on your wallet (but worth every penny) a trip to Puglia in the heel can be very good value for money. It has some of the best beaches with beautiful hilltop towns and ancient sites. With its fabulous but cheap food, good value hotels it is becoming one of Europe’s best little secrets.

Most of the areas I have referred to can be visited on a Cruise although may be quite tricky sailing up the River Nidd, but some different ideas to mull over.
