It was only last week when I took a call from a client asking for a cruise and when asked the usual where, when etc questions, his answer brought home the true facts of the civil unrest throughout the world. “somewhere I will not get shot at” was his reply.
After chatting he had been caught up in the shootings in Tunisia last year and a bomb explosion in Turkey so no wonder he said that. With terror
attacks in both Eqypt and Turkey recently I was not surprised by his comments. Where will they strike next? that is the fifty thousand dollar question and no one can answer that. Any public place no matter how big or small may be next. What do do? Stay at home just in case, wait and see what happens ? No I say, my motto life is too short, live your life, book your next holiday but always be vigilant and aware of your surroundings.
With this in mind most of the major Cruise Lines have given statements announcing that the safety of its customers and crew is their main concern and will monitor very closely the situation in the effected areas. Should the need arise, they will revise itineraries where they feel necessary.
Norwegian Cruise Line, Disney, Crystal and MSC have already suspended calls into Turkish ports and Celebrity will no longer do overnight stays in beautiful Istanbul. However the decision was said to be due to birth availability but consensus of opinion is about security in the region.
Within the last few hours Oceania have also amended their Mediterranean programme. Do you think this is the right thing to so. I do as we must not let this situation stop us living our lives.
