Royal Caribbean think about crew too

‘Hi Dad how are you and Moth…….’

‘Sorry I cant hear you……….’

‘Bad internet connect……..ion here as I… in the middle of the oce….an’

‘Yes the ship is great and….have met ………but my cabin is ………’

Its a little frustrating when you are a crew member on a cruise line getting in touch with family half way around the world.  With the hours you work you only have a small amount of time to go online to talk to them.  Typically there are on average about 12 computers on board a ship in the crew quarters to share around approximately 800 staff so as you can see if the internet is not working or you can’t get to a computer then it can be very frustrating.

So within this new technology announcement, Royal Caribbean will present every crew member on Quantum of the Seas with a free, personal Microsoft Windows tablet, inclusive of services and apps that is theirs to keep.  And as technology upgrades are made across the company’s fleet, every shipboard employee in the entire Royal Caribbean International fleet will also receive their own tablet – a total of 40,000 tablets.

Well this is certainly a ‘WOW’ moment of which Royal Caribbean should be proud of.  This will make a great difference to the well being of all the crew serving on Royal Caribbean ships.

It can be difficult to entice good crew members back to work on the ships, it also helps RCCL too as they won’t have to train a new crew member if an experienced person returns. Once their 9 month shift finishes RCCL give the option to return but many crew become home sick and decide to stay on land, this new idea will certainly make crew who are thinking of leaving think again.

On behalf of all crew members well done Royal Caribbean, I wonder if other cruise lines will follow suit?
