Oasis in Southampton

No, I am not talking about the indie band.

Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas has arrived in Southampton today after being in dry dock in Rotterdam.  The world’s largest cruise ship is both adding and removing features during the overhaul to allow for the new Dynamic Dining concept to be rolled out, and many changes affect on board eateries. Opus Dining Room is being removed on three of the ship’s decks, and other notable removals include the popular Viking Crown Lounge and Pinnacle Lounge and Pinnacle Chapel. Eight new eateries will be added and include: American Icon Grill, The Grande, Silk, Sabor, and Boardwalk Dog House. Some new retail shops and several new cabins are also being added to the ship.

Oasis is 40% larger than any other cruise ship  which has docked in Southampton before, she is longer than 6 buses parked end to end.  To give you an example of her sheer size, look at the picture….see the small vessel to the left of Oasis?  Well this is the Red Funnel ferry which serves Southampton to the Isle of Wight.

Oasis will embark passengers in Southampton and sail over to the United States via Vigo in Spain onto Fort Lauderdale and then Oasis will start her Caribbean season.
