Indoor Skydiving

When I worked on board Celebrity cruises I visited some fantastic port of call and enjoyed some great memories.  This memory however isn’t that great however now I might be able to fulfill a boyhood dream.

We were on Celebrity Summit on our Hawaiian run from Los Angeles.  Our crew welfare officer came up with an idea that she could get us discounted rates on sky dive.  As this was on my bucket list of things to do, I jumped at the chance.

On arriving in Lahaina (Maui) in Hawaii around 15 crew  disembarked the ship with nervous excitement in the air and waited by the port entrance for the mini bus to arrive to take us for our training.  The bus arrived, the guy stepped out and said ‘Sorry guys it it too windy today for any skydive, re book for the next time you are here’.  Obviously we all felt a little flat as we had built up the courage to do this and we would now have to wait for 2 weeks later when Summit arrives in Hawaii again.

Almost 2 weeks later and one day before we arrived back in Lahaina I received an email from Miami head office which read, You have a new Assistant Manager arriving in Lahaina tomorrow.  Make yourself available to welcome him on board.

I was gutted.  Not only I would miss the second opportunity to skydive, this would be my last chance to do this as this was Summit’s last Hawaiian run for the season.  Anyway the rest of the other guys got to do it and had pleasure in showing me their videos.

Why am I talking about this?  Well the new Quantum Class Royal Caribbean ships have a skydiving simulator on board.  So I am definitely going to go on this ship and fulfill one of my dreams.  I know it will not be the same as dropping over Hawaiian Islands but you can’t have it all!
