Well I have some really exciting news to all you jazz lovers.

Cunard are proud to announce an exciting entertainment partnership with jazz label Blue Note Records which will be debuting on the Queen Mary 2, on the 29th October 2015. This will be a very special transatlantic crossing from New York to Southampton, where all guests will have the enjoyment of intimate jazz performances by the Blue Note 75th Anniversary All Star Band.

Featuring artists on board will be, keyboardist Robert Glasper, trumpeter Keyon Harrold, tenor saxophonist Marcus Strickland, guitarist Lionel Loueke, bassist Derrick Hodge, and drummer Kendrick Scott, the band’s repertoire draws from each of these artists’ own remarkable catalogues as well new spins on Blue Note classics. Through the decades, Blue Note Records has recorded countless legends including Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Horace Silver, Herbie Hancock, Norah Jones and Van Morrison, the list is just endless.

To top it off you will also have the President of Blue Note Records, Don Was on board who will participate in Q&A sessions. If you don’t know who Don Was is, he is a celebrated musician and Grammy® Award winning producer for Bonnie Raitt and the Rolling Stones. Wow I wish I was going on this cruise.

This unique partnership celebrates two historic times both for Cunard and Blue Note Records. Blue Note records were founded by Alfred Lion in 1939 and are the most revered and longest running jazz label in the world. 2015 is a very important year for Cunard, they will be celebrating their 175th anniversary, they were the first to ever cruise liner to offer transatlantic cruises, carrying guests between continents in sheer luxury and sophistication.

I do also know that in 2016 there will be two more special cruises to be launched, and Don will personally hand pick those artists from Blue Note Record’s renowned group of musicians.
