My Danube Adventure…
I’ve recently told you about my river cruise on the Danube and all about the cabins and the ship this time I’ll let you know what excursions I did as part of the Active and Discovery sailing.
Avalon offer an amazing range of excursions for the very active to the classic tours. In each destination there was a fantastic range. Here is what I got up too.
Budapest we did an excursion from the hotel in the morning which took us to the Opera house unfortunately it was under renovation however still a beautiful building on the Pest side which if you don’t know there are two sides to Budapest divided by the river. The lower Side is Pest which is more hustle and bustle and a thriving city and Buda is the hilly and more greener side. The view from Buda over the river is stunning and the Matthias church with its amazing roof.
We boarded the ship in the afternoon sailed overnight for Visegrád where we opted for the scenic hiking tour up to Count Dracula’s Prison tour, the other options were canoeing in the Danube the discovery option was an guided tour tour the Medieval knights tournament.
The following day we arrived in Vienna where the active excursion was cycling in Vienna or you could Visit the Belvedere castle with the renowned Guatav Klimt’s painting the Kiss. The weather was fantastic so after a quick visit to the Belvedere castle we headed into the city. Vienna is stunning with lots of history. The city is easily reachable from the river and we used the subway and taxi to get around. We docked over night in Vienna and there was optional excursions to the opera should you wish to do this. We had free time the following day and decided to go back into the city do do more site seeing
Next time I’ll tell you a bit more about my adventures
