Liverpool’s Big weekend to Salute the Three Queens

Majority of the time when something exciting is happening in the cruise world here in the UK, normally all eyes are on Southampton to see what spectacle will be happening. However next week all eyes will be on Liverpool as they join in Cunard’s 175th Anniversary celebrations and play host to all three Queens meeting together on the Mersey.

So whats happening and on what dates?

Sunday 24th May – From 7am-7.30am Queen Mary 2 will be visible from Crosby Beach and New Brighton before arriving into Liverpool Cruise Terminal at 9am, if you are lucky enough to be going to watch then you will also be able to see                             Queen Mary 2 from Birkenhead.

In the evening at 10pm they have an ‘Amazing Graces’ digital / light projection show on the Three Graces, which is then followed at 10:30pm with a mid river firework display, off the pier head.

Monday 25th May: At 10:45am Queen Mary 2 will leave the Liverpool cruise terminal and greet the Queen Elizabeth and the Queen Victoria in the mouth of the Mersey – if you want to watch then this area is between Crosby Beach and New Brighton.  From 12pm-2pm the three Queens will then sail in formation towards the Liverpool Echo Arena – according to the Liverpool Echo the best vies will be along the river bank outside the arena, the Wirral, down by Woodside Birkenhead Ferry Terminal.

At 2pm Queen Mary 2 will then leave the city and Queen Elizabeth will be berthed at the City Terminal and Queen Victoria will be anchored in the middle of the Mersey.

Again at 10pm there will be the Amazing Graces’ digital / light projection show on the Three Graces, which will then be followed by another firework display. Queen Elizabeth will then sail out and Queen Victoria will be berthed at the City Terminal.

Tuesday 26th May: At 4:30pm there will be a special musical sail-away performance to say good bye to Queen Victoria with her sailing out at 5pm.

Sounds like its going to be a fantastic weekend and am sure Liverpool will do us proud, just a shame I live the other end of the country so won’t be able to see it, however I do have a customer on board the Queen Mary 2  so hoping she takes lots of pictures, but if you are lucky to be going then please share your pictures as I would love to see them.

Here are 3 did you know facts to finish with:

From 1840 to 1967 Liverpool was home to Cunard’s home. The Cunard Building, completed in 1917, is one of the famous ‘Three Graces’ at Liverpool’s Pier Head.

The new mail service proved so popular that by 1847 the Admiralty negotiated with Samuel to double the service to sail every Saturday from Liverpool to either Halifax or Boston.

11 million emigrants crossed the Atlantic between 1860 and 1900. About a third of them sailed from Liverpool.

Have a good couple of weeks, next time I will let you know about my time with a Royal Princess
