Countdown to Quantum of the Seas

So now after the excitement of the largest cruise ship having sailed in to Southampton – Oasis of the Seas on the 15th October, we now turn our attention to another Royal Caribbean cruise ship but this time it will be the fabulous new Quantum of the Seas which will be launching in Southampton and setting sail on its maiden voyage on the 02nd November and sailing to its home port which will be Cape Liberty. It has been billed as   the world’s most futuristic and advanced ship

The Quantum of the seas will be the first in the Quantum class with its sister ship Anthem launching next year and will be sailing from Southampton, from April to October 2015, and then there will also be the Ovation of the Seas (still not liking this name) and this will launch in the fall of 2016. The Quantum of the seas itself will be 168,666 GRT • 1,141 feet (348 meters) long • 136 feet (41 meters) wide and will hold 4,180 guests (double occupancy) or 4,905 guests total.

The ship will have the same features as the much anticipated Anthem of the seas, ie the dodgem cars, the north star, the sky diving simulator – ifly by ripcord, the fabulous dynamic dining concept, as well as the robotic bar, virtual balconies and also the Sea plex.

This will also see the introduction of all the new technology such as the SMART check-in which enables you to be on board the ship ten minutes after arriving at the port –  you will have already uploaded your cruise sea pass photo before you arrive, you will be able to track your luggage from dropping at the port to delivery at the cabin, the new downloadable app to plan your time on board plus many more. All this new technology is great if firstly you have access to a computer at home, tablet, iPad or a smart phone, and secondly if you know how to use them. Last week for example I completed 4 cruise personalisers for my guests as they either didn’t have access to a computer or they didn’t understand how to complete them, and will be even harder once they have to start uploading their photos for their sea passes and unfortunately it just won’t be possible for me to drive around to their homes to help them do it – so will this then mean if you can’t use a computer you can’t sail on Royal Caribbean again?

Unfortunately I won’t be boarding the Quantum of the seas but I will be sailing on the Anthem of the Seas next year and can’t wait. Are you lucky enough to be sailing on any of the new Quantum class ships in the next year? what are you thoughts on the ships and facilities?
