One of the important questions we get asked when choosing a cabin is what is the size and layout of the cabin? How are the beds configured ie only fixed twin beds or can they be made into a double, what is the maximum occupancy of the cabin and are the extra beds in the upper pullman berths or sofa beds, and the other question is how big is the bathroom?
Unless you are lucky to travel on one of the luxury cruise lines such as Oceania, Regent, Silverseas etc where the bathrooms are plentiful in size and its like having a hotel bathroom, most of us will be used to a smallish bathroom with just enough room to turn around in, not enough room to get dressed in, but there is privacy and no-one can see in or out of the bathroom.
However this week I was shocked to learn about the bathrooms on the NCL Epic and have to say what I have found out has put me off sailing on this ship. When you enter your cabin on the right you would expect to find your bathroom – on the NCL Epic is just the toilet which has a glass frosted sliding door. Opposite on the other side is the shower again with a glass frosted sliding door or a curtain. The sink is in main part of the cabin at the end of the bed.
At first I thought my colleagues were pulling my leg but I have checked the photos in google, and have read other people’s reviews and this is true. For me personally I would prefer to keep my bathroom habits private and to myself, and certainly don’t what to see/hear my cabin buddy’s (even if they were my partners) habits either.
Would this put you off from sailing on the NCL Epic? Yes the ship has a lot to offer and looks great, and I appreciate you are not in your cabin great deal of time, however I do like my own privacy and respect other peoples privacy. I think I would have to send the other person out of the room.
