Turkish Visa Changes

The Turkish Government have this month announced changes to the Turkish Visa process. Currently people arriving into Turkey have to pay a £10 visa charge upon arrival. It was originally announced that from the 10th April 2014 this is changing to an online visa application process.

Since this announcement was made ABTA have been negotiating with the Turkish authorities and have succeeded in obtaining a longer transition period for this implementation and anyone travelling this year will now have a choice of paying upon arrival or applying in advance for their visa.

The cost of on line application is $20 US and it can be obtained via this link www.evisa.gov.tr
For more information on Turkey, the visa’s and the extension of this transition period you can call the Turkish Consulate Centre (UK) on 020 36088090

From the 31st December 2014 all holiday makers travelling to Turkey will have to make their visa application on line.

If you are a cruise customer and only visiting Turkey as a port of call you do not need to obtain a visa as long as your stay is not longer than 72 hours and you are not leaving the city/region of the port. Generally cruise line excursions do not leave the region and they will let you know if you do need one. However if your cruise starts or ends in Turkey you will need to purchase a visa, even if you are just transiting from the port to the airport for your flight home.

I hope that you have found this information useful and that you won’t get caught out if you’re planning on travelling to Turkey.

  1. Thank you for that – our cruise, next September, ends in Istanbul – our travel agent hasn’t mentioned this visa to us as yet.

    • Glad to be of service John, If you are flying back on the cruise line’s flights the will probably arrange your visa this September – Royal Caribbean and Celebrity certainly do. If you have arranged your own flights you will need to sort your own visa – and your travel agent should certainly have told you that at the time of booking even if these changes hadn’t been announced.
