D’oh! Homer stows away.

Whilst on board Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 this weekend I discovered that Homer Simpson has stowed away and is happily sailing the world whilst watching TV.

Decks 2 and 3 feature 4 amazing brass murals depicting cultural icons from across the continent and Homer is part of the North American panel outside  the Golden Lion pub.

The mural which has classic American images depicted – Wild West wagons, football players and Capitol Hill has a tiny Homer hidden just to the left of the Statue of Liberty and under the Space Shuttle.  He is sat comfortably on his sofa with his remote control in his hand.

The designers of the murals G&H Studios in Somerset added him as a fun element into the artwork “It had to be visible, yet it had to be a little discreet.” said Ben Harms and they didn’t advise Cunard that he would be featured. However it was a very clever move on their behalf and he has been a talking point on board ever since.
